Kathmandu: CPN (UML) Chairperson KP Sharma Oli has directed his party's parliamentarians to oppose the government's policy and program in parliament.

In his address to a meeting of the CPN (UML)'s parliamentary party meeting at parliament building in New Baneswor on Sunday, Oli instructed the parliamentarians to strongly articulate the party's stances on the policy and program to be discussed in parliament from Sunday onward.

"UML's role has become weak. So, our role needs to be strong in the parliament. Be effective in articulating party's position in the parliament in the given time," Oli instructed.

He said they would not allow the government to endorse its annual policy and program from the parliament.

Oli argued that the government-introduced policy and program was unclear, confusing, and directionless, so it would not address any problems persisting in the political, social, and economic fronts.

He also said that the government's policy and program was a "bundle of lies" and that it would not be able to fulfill the aspirations of the people.

Oli's instructions come at a time when the UML is facing a number of challenges, including internal divisions and a declining popularity.

The party's poor performance in the recent local elections has further weakened its position.

Oli's instructions to the party's parliamentarians are seen as an attempt to strengthen the party's position in parliament and to counter the government's policies and programs.

It remains to be seen how effective the UML's parliamentarians will be in articulating the party's position in parliament.

However, Oli's instructions are a clear indication that the UML is not going to take the government's policies and programs lying down.
